Whispers, judgments, and accusations swirl around a tight-knit English fishing village. A fishermans apprentice is dead and Peter Grimes, the boys employer, is in the frame. Benjamin Brittens landmark opera is the story of a man isolated between the cruel gossip of the local village and the savagery of the open sea. Celebrating 80 years since its premiere, the UKs national opera training company is pairing up with Cambridge Philharmonic for this semi-staged performance. Established names in the three key roles (including tenor Mark Le Brocqs first time tackling the role of Peter Grimes) are joined by the next generation of opera professionals from BYOs advanced summer programme as well as the Cambridge Philharmonic chorus.
