Durham Pride UK was founded back in 2014 when our Chair, Mel Metcalf began asking people why our beautiful and diverse County wasnt celebrating LGBT Pride. We were told we couldnt do it by some, that it would only be another student event by others and that there wouldnt be any interest by many. Less than 6 months later our first Pride happened on a lovely sunny Thursday evening with an estimated audience of 2,500 and a magnificent mix of people. In 2019 we welcomed an amazing 25,000 people to our celebrations as we continue to grow LGBT+ visibility in County Durham.
