Learn the skills required to write successful YA fiction and get it published From Harry Potter to Twilight and The Hunger Games, the teen fiction market has never been so popular. But writing for young adults is no mean feat authors need to consider a combination of factors in order to break into the market: what age range do you target? What is appropriate and inappropriate content for young adult audiences? And just how do you write something thats unique, interesting and engaging for teenage readers? Led by multi-award-winning author James Dawson, this course examines the skills required to write YA fiction and succeed in such a competitive industry. Over the course of the day, youll look at examples of first-rate YA writing and examine the specifics of the craft by discussing what makes them so popular. Attendees will also be invited to workshop their own writing, taking away constructive feedback on their work and advice on how to improve. Youll finish the day with a better understanding of what YA is, what editors and agents are looking for, and how to get your writing into print. This course is for you if... You have an idea for a novel for teens or young adults but are struggling to know where to take it You have some knowledge of existing teen and young adult titles, and want to learn how to write for a YA audience Youre currently working on a novel for teens or young adults and want to learn how to get it ready to send to publishers PLEASE NOTE: Attendees will be asked to provide the first chapter of something they have written for a YA audience, which will be workshopped on the day
