Gloucestershire Pride 2014

Gloucestershire Pride 2014 will be a celebration - 50 years of progress to LGB&T Equality. Assembling in front of the steps of Shire Hall in Westgate Street, Gloucester, the start of parade will be proclaimed by Gloucesters Town Crier, Alan Myatt, who will lead the parade through the city centre streets and the docks area. In a break with tradition there will be no speeches before the parade sets off, these will be made from the main stage on arrival at Gloucester Park. A series of banners designating each decade (1960s, 1970s through to 2010s), produced as cut-outs, will be decorated to represent the styles of the period. Community events will be held in the lead up to the day for members of the community to get involved in producing these. The banners will break the parade up into sections. For each decade a number of A3 laminated placards will be produced for those taking part in the parade to carry; highlighting key events of each decade. The first will be 1957 Wolfenden Report, then 1967 Decriminalisation, culminating in Gay Marriage, 29 March 2014. The parade will be a celebration of progress, referencing the protests of the past in the successes achieved. Members of the community are invited to dress up to represent a decade, an event or in the style of a particular period. There will be prizes for the best costumes (male and female entrants). The theme will be carried forward to the park with the banners and placards positioned there at the end of the parade.
