Business in the City lunch

Where business and politics meet Cllr Geoffrey Bowden, business owner and Green party councillor will talk about his motivations for running a business and becoming a councillor, as well as getting involved in numerous community projects in the city. Weve also asked him to address the question: Is the green party really pro business? A journalist and community activist, who has lived in Kemptown for nearly 34 years, Geoffrey allocates his time to a wide range of activities. He sold his interest in the country's third largest public affairs consultancy in 1997 and retired. However, that phase of his career lasted less than a month before he was persuaded to establish a new PR company with partners offering consultancy in healthcare. After leading a successful buy-out of his partners in 2008 he formed the Brighton-based health and social care communications company, GBCPR. Geoffrey was against the rapid sell-off of the NHS to profit-making companies. He actively campaigned against a locally elected mayor for Brighton, and won. He has a track record of activism in the lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) community having been a volunteer for Pride and other local charities, including Same Sky. Geoffrey is the councillor for the Queen Park ward and chair of the Economic Development & Culture Committee. He is also a member of the Health & Wellbeing Board, Adult Care & Health Committee and is a member of the Older Peoples' Council. He is co-author of "Managing the Message" a communications toolkit aimed at those working in the NHS. Join Geoffrey at the Chamber Business in the City lunch and hear more.
